Over the past few months, I have been focusing on my personal development as I work on my journey as a consultant, and try to find where I fit in this new space. I have learned a great deal, including that I have a lot to work on and a long way to go. I am making a Sunday practice to spend some time reading and sharing with you all as well. What good is learning unless you share with others as well?
The book I'm starting with is The Charge by Brendon Burchard. In this post I will share my favorite quotes and a few notes from the Introduction. By leaving it somewhat open I feel that it will leave the message open to interpretation which will allow you to get what you need from the text, as I have so far.
You're going to have to demand more for yourself.
Going to show you an entirely new plane of possibility and emotional vibrancy that you never knew existed. A more vital, colorful, more exciting sexier reality can be yours!
A strategic plan that challenges you to live your best life.
How is it that we have so much and don't feel a constant spark of energy all the time or at least not more of the time?
The things that used to make us feel fappy, fulfilled, and energized just fifty years ago have changed because our brains, bodies, and society have changed.
As society becomes more abundant, what drives us is not just by what we need. Most of our basic human needs are met and structured by an advancing society. Because of the basic hierarchy of needs (Maslow) when we have our needs met and don't feel happy, we feel that something is wrong with us. But the reality is that we have to focus on what we want now, as opposed to what we need as much.
When our basic needs are met, what charges the most neural activity are novelty, challenge, connection and expression.
We want to feel engaged at work and the things that make us engaged include choice, contribution, and creative expression.
It's an enduring flame in the soul that illuminates you throughout all your days no matter the darkness around you.
We have to understand ourselves better, and what is within us to activate the parts of us that make our lives rich, colorful, connected and meaningful.
No matter your position, circumstances, or opportunities in life, you always have the freedom of mind to choose how you experience, interpret and ultimately shape your world.
Your story is being crafted with every action, all leading somewhere, all leading to what one hopes will be a magnificent crescendo. Perhaps you'll just choose in this moment to activate the best within you once more. This is your time, your destiny awaits, ready yourself… let's roll!

I have also recently shared this on twitter, but if you're not yet listening to his podcasts, Brendon also has fantastic messages that are shared within his podcast The Brendon Show. Most of the episodes are 20 minutes or less, making it easy to listen to while getting ready for work, on a short drive, or during your lunch break!
I would love to know how this blog effects you, and what speaks to you the most! Is this summary something that you enjoy, and would look forward to receiving from me on a weekly basis? I plan to share the summary of a new chapter each week as I work my way through this book. I'm looking forward to what it will bring to my life, and hope that it inspires and empowers you along your journey as well! "This is your time, your destiny awaits, ready yourself… let's roll!"
